Project – Paisley Grammar School

paisley.jpgThe main school building (Grade B listed) built originally in 1895 had  been extended through the years with three-storey East and West Wings constructed in the mid 1950’s. The roofs of both wings were in need of refurbishment, each with roofs on three different levels – the lower level cloakrooms with two large Northlight or Pyramid rooflights, the main deck roof with three rooflights and low upstands to the clerestory windows, and the top roof. Because of the low upstands on the main deck possibilities for adding insulation were very limited, but the top roof did not suffer these restrictions. However, planning conditions relating to the listed building classification limited the thickness of insulation thatcould be applied to 50mm.

A Decothane Gamma 20 system from Liquid Plastics was specified. This is a cold applied, seamless system that consists of a Decothane Base Coat fully reinforced with Reemat Premium Glass Fibre Matting and completed with a Decothane Top Coat. New rooflights were also provided and installed so that they could be accessed by maintenance personnel, and contrasting walkways were produced using red Decothane to provide a safe means of access across the roof.
